Bugs, insects, critters, creepy crawlies, vermin, pests, whatever! No matter what you call them, they are all the same thing, and they are still everywhere! All the world’s insects weigh more than all the people and land animals combined! That’s a lot of bugs! The thing about bugs however, is that very few are actually harmful. In fact, less than 10% of bugs are destructive. The other 90% are either helpful or benign.
Fun Insect Facts:
- Of the 35,000 species of spiders, only 27 species are known to have caused human fatalities
- A flea can jump 130 times its own height
- The atlas moth, one of the largest silk moths, can be mistaken for a medium-sized bat when flying
- Butterflies and moths are found on all land masses except Antarctica
- There are more than 300,000 species of beetles, making them the largest order of insects in the world
